The 2nd July saw 20+ young farmers and our exchange guest Veronica from Switzerland jump on a bus and head to Stafford for the National Competitions Final Weekend.
Firstly, Kate made her way to the Situations Vacant Competition on the Saturday, coming a brilliant 6th place with only a few points behind 4th& 5th.
The Sunday came and after a well fought second from Northern Area, team Northumberland were raring to go. Waking up on Sunday and heading down for breakfast sporting our new, though fairly tight t-shirts the nerves were starting to set in. Thanks to the NFU Mutal at Morpeth for sponsoring our t-shirts. Poor Lucy and Alex struggling to finish what they had put on their plates. We arrived at the school and headed to sign in, obviously checking out the competition on route. The team lined up for a nail and hair check, Claire sneakily trying to hide her Fitbit as every step counts, but sadly got caught. Carly picked Northumberland as team F, into a league of 6 we went. The first game showing promise with a good win, Joanna making some great pass choices and Jess being her speedy self in the second quarter, despite a rather late night, Vicky and Claire’s shooting was also on point. Not to forget Nikki didn’t get wrong for too many obstructions so we were all pleased with the performance. The next game, came with another win, we played with ease, Emily showing us that height isn’t everything in a game of netball by intercepting many of the passes. Then we met our hardest game against Bedfordshire, sadly losing out this dented our confidence a little, however we came back in the next game with some great distance shots from Carly. Overall we came third in our league only losing to the teams that came first and second overall, a great effort which we were all proud of. Making up a squad of 9 from different clubs in the County really showed how team Northumberland can work together. A great weekend with great support, especially the crazy dance moves in Stafford on the Saturday Night!
